Workshop on common evaluation methodology for automated driving tests

On 23 November 2020, ARCADE organised an online worshop to discuss future development of new evaluation activities and tools for comprehensive assessment of automated driving.

Experiences and lessons from recent trials were reflected against methodology handbooks, to identify gaps in current guidelines and processes. Additionally, methodological gaps and lessons identified in the workshop were used as input to the CAD Knowledge Base. The field for the upcoming CCAM actions were also mapped. New evaluation activities will start next year, and projects’ goals and harmonisation between them are topical issues at the moment.

The workshop began with an introduction on Common Evaluation Methodology goals that have been discussed with the CCAM Partnership; Tom Alkim from the European Commission will set the scope.

Most discussions took place in break-out groups, to enable interactive participation. The break-out topics were:

1. Large-scale and long-term testing: from prototype testing to mobility impacts
2. National small tests: scenario testing, links between validation and evaluation
3. Simulations and data: tool development, common definitions and databases
