Testing autonomous mobility solutions in Copenhagen

15 July 2020

The citizens of Copenhagen (Denmark) can look forward soon to experiencing a self driving minibus service provided by Holo, when the seafront area of Nordhavn becomes part of the EU-funded research project called AVENUE. Holo provides mobility with autonomous technology in pilot projects across the Nordic and Baltic region.

Copenhagen, in parallel with other cities: Luxembourg, Geneva and Lyon, becomes one of the cities where self driving mobility solutions will be demonstrated and implemented. The predefined route for the demonstration has six stops around the Nordhavn area and the bus continues to travel in a loop via Murmanskgade, Sandkaj, Gøteborg Plads, Sandkaj, Karlskronagade, Bilbaogade, Århusgade and Helsinkigade. The service runs from Monday to Friday from 10:00 – 17:00 and is free of charge. The service is expected to run from August 2020 to April 2022. An operator from Holo will be on board to welcome the passengers and oversee the traffic safety. Holo cooperates together with By & Havn, GF Århusgadekvarteret, City of Copenhagen, Movia and Metroselskabet, and is responsible for implementation of the self driving bus service in Copenhagen as part of the AVENUE project.

AVENUE – Autonomous Vehicles to Evolve to a New Urban Experience, is an EU-funded project under Horizon 2020 programme, which has started on 1 May 2018 and will last 48 months. The AVENUE consortium consists of 16 partners from 7 European countries. AVENUE project aims to design and carry out full-scale demonstrations of urban transport automation by deploying fleets of autonomous minibuses in low to medium demand areas of four European demonstrator cities: Geneva, Lyon, Copenhagen and Luxembourg, and later on of three replicator cities. Check the AVENUE project website to follow latest developments, and CORDIS page with a fact sheet and results.
